Parkvonear Castle, Killarney

Just click on photo to enlarge.

The ridge of Aghadoe has always represented a strategic border. In the early 1200s this border was between Gaelic Ireland to the south of the ridge and Norman Ireland to the north. The Normans built an advanced line of castles along the ridge.

This photo was taken from the one at Aghadoe called Parkvonear. It gave a commanding view into Gaelic Ireland. For the lookouts to have ventured further, however, would have meant certain death.
