The Upper Lake is famous for its echoes, particularly here at The Eagles Nest. In times past, the echoes were raised by buglers which in turn disturbed the eagles nesting above, to the joy of the Victorian tourists. The louder the noise, the better the reaction from the eagles until eventually a cannon was used, at which stage the eagles mating habits were destroyed (well they would be, wouldn't they) and the eagles simply died of sexual frustration.
